US Infuriated by IRGC’s Regional Victories: Iran Defense Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami highlighted the reasons behind a recent decision by the US administration to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist group”, saying that the IRGC’s regional victories have infuriated Washington.

With their accurate and profound understanding of the requirements of the 1979 revolution and the Islamic homeland, the IRGC forces have always played a decisive role in sensitive and strategic missions, Brigadier General Hatami said in a message released on Tuesday.

The victories and capabilities of the IRGC have infuriated the US, the Zionist regime of Israel and their terrorist elements, he added.

“This move by the US reflects the depth of (its) defeat in the region and hostility to the Islamic Revolution and the revolutionary people of Iran and also signifies (the US’) official support for Takfiri and terrorist currents that have been hit and received blows mainly from the IRGC,” the Defense Minister went on to say.

The message came after the Trump administration on Monday labeled IRGC as a “terrorist group” at the behest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israelis head to the polls on Tuesday to elect the 120 members of the 21st Knesset (parliament). On the eve of the vote, Netanyahu took credit for Trump’s decision to blacklist IRGC.

“Thank you, my dear friend, President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu tweeted in Hebrew, “for answering another one of my important requests.”

On Monday, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in turn, designated US forces in West Asia, known as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), as a terrorist organization.
