TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed a range of issues, including peace efforts in Syria and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov before leaving Tehran for New York for a meeting on international peace.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Zarif and Lavrov have discussed the process of peace in Syria and issues surrounding the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in a telephone conversation.

The two ministers have reportedly talked about the upcoming meeting of the Astana peace process for the settlement of conflicts in Syria.

On Tuesday morning, Zarif left Tehran for New York to attend the high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate and promote the “International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace” at the United Nations headquarters.
