Massimo Carrera New Nomination for Esteghlal Hot Seat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Italian coach Massimo Carrera has been nominated to coach Iranian football club Esteghlal.

The ex-Juventus defender has most recently coached Russian football club Spartak Moscow.

The 55-year-old coach started his coaching career as Juventus technical director in 2011 and was appointed as the Italian team caretaker in 2012.

Carrera also worked as Italy assistant coach from 2014 to 2016.

The Iranian club had also been linked with Qatari club Al Shahania coach Jose Murcia.

Esteghlal parted company with its German coach in late April following poor results in the Iran Professional League.

Assistant coach Farhad Majidi replaced Winfried Schäfer until the end of the season.

Esteghlal general manager Amir Hossein Fathi had already said the team’s next coach will not be an Iranian coach.
