Demonstrators to Defy ‘Deal of Century’ in Quds Day Rallies: Organizer

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The theme of this year’s International Quds Day is “collapse of deal of the century and stabilization of the cause of Palestine”, an Iranian official said, adding that growing aversion to the US and Israeli plots will result in the spread of resistance to the West Bank.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, head of the Intifada (Uprising) and Quds Center at Iran’s Islamic Propagation Coordination Council, General Ramezan Sharif, said the Iranian people will be holding countrywide demonstrations this Friday to mark the International Quds Day.

This year’s rallies will be held under the slogan “the collapse of deal of the century and stabilization of the Palestinian cause,” he added, stressing that a growing understanding of the issue of Palestine has created an “international and global capacity” for pursuing the demands of the Palestinian people.

He emphasized that the issue of Palestine remains the pivotal issue in the Islamic world despite widespread attempts by the global arrogance and international Zionism aimed at drawing the world’s attention away from Israeli atrocities.

The International Quds Day will give a warning to certain Arab states, particularly to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, that an upcoming conference in Bahrain purportedly on Palestine’s economic prosperity will be playing into the hands of the US and the Zionist regime which could undermine the Palestinian struggle, he added.

Bahrain is going to host a conference in June to encourage investment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as part of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Palestine. The so-called “Peace to Prosperity” economic workshop, to be held on June 25-26 in cooperation with Washington, has already been rebuffed by Palestinian officials and business leaders.

Elsewhere in the conference, General Sharif said, “Making a decision on Palestine without referring to Palestinians will result in a new and massive Intifada across the Palestinian territories in the near future, and we’d witness that the West Bank will also follow the resistance path.”

Highlighting the growing anger at the Trump administration’s anti-Palestinian policies shown by the resistance groups and the Palestinian National Authority’s top officials who have been attending the peace talks, Sharif said the boycott of the Bahrain conference reveals the strong opposition to the infamous deal of century.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
