Iran Sweeps Past Australia to Win Asian Volleyball Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran swept aside Australia 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-21) in the 2019 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship final on Saturday.

In the match, held at the 12,000-seater Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran, Igor Kolakovic’s men showed their reign in Asia for the third time.

It was sweet revenge for Team Melli who had lost to Australia 3-1 in the preliminary round.

Japan defeated South Korea 3-1 (25-23,25-17, 23-25, 25-22) in the bronze medal match.

The 9th-place finish of Qatar earned the team a place in the AVC Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in Jiangmen, China between January 7 and 12, 2020. Only top eight teams from this edition of the Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship are qualified for the Olympic Qualification Tournament, but as the Tokyo 2020 hosts Japan has already been qualified, Qatar, the team finishing 9th place, will be in place.
