Iranian, Pakistani FMs Discuss Ties, Regional Developments


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Issues pertaining to peace and security in the region as well as bilateral ties were discussed during the meeting on Monday, Radio Pakistan reported.

Both foreign ministers agreed to continue consultations on the changing situation of the region.

Zarif is in New York for the UN General Assembly.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has also travelled to the US to attend the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations.

The president is slated to deliver a speech at the 74th UN General Assembly meeting on Wednesday.

Earlier, the president’s deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili, had said that during the visit, Rouhani would meet with the UN chief and several heads of state including those of France, Britain, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Iraq, Sweden and Pakistan.
