Spokesman Condemns Attack on Iranian Consulate in Karbala

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned a recent attack on the country’s consulate building in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala.

Asked on Tuesday about what recently happened to the Iranian consulate building in Karbala and the measures by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for protecting the security of the country’s diplomatic missions in Iraq, Abbas Mousavi condemned such attacks.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has conveyed its concerns through political channels to the host government (Iraq), emphasized the need for protecting the security of our country’s diplomatic and consular buildings in Iraq within the framework of international regulations and conventions, and called for the necessary action and intensified measures to protect our country’s diplomatic missions in Iraq,” he added.

Some Iraqi protesters attacked the Iranian consulate in the Iraqi city of Karbala on Sunday night.

They threw stones and burning objects over the high concrete walls surrounding the consulate building.
