VP Proposes Iran-Kyrgyzstan Trade in Own Currencies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri suggested using the Iranian and Kyrgyz national currencies to boost trade exchanges between the two countries.

In a meeting with Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Transport and Roads Zhanat Beishenov and Minister of Economy Sanzhar Mukanbetov, held in Tehran on Wednesday, Jahangiri proposed that Iran and Kyrgyzstan use their own currencies to broaden economic ties and increase the trade exchanges.

The vice president also expressed satisfaction with a successful meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries, and hoped for the achievement of a road map to the development of bilateral ties.

Highlighting the grounds for the promotion of regional interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, Jahangiri said plans to operate direct flights between Tehran and Bishkek would greatly facilitate business trips between the two countries.

Iran has great technical and engineering capabilities and is ready to carry out projects on construction of roads, dams and large industrial factories in Kyrgyzstan, the vice president added.

Beishenov, for his part, thanked Iran for assisting with the construction of a sports complex in Kyrgyzstan, and highlighted Iran’s role and membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.

Back in May, high-ranking diplomats from Iran and Kyrgyzstan held the fourth round of political consultations between the two countries in Tehran.

The negotiations were co-chaired by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi and his Kyrgyz counterpart, Nuran Niazaliyev.

The two sides discussed a range of issues, including mutual, regional, and international cooperation, and reached an agreement on the agenda of meetings between senior officials of Iran and Kyrgyzstan during the current Iranian year (started March 21).

In their talks, Araqchi and Niazaliyev emphasized the need to implement the past agreements and documents signed during the reciprocal visits of the Iranian and Kyrgyz presidents.
