Heavy Blows Await US after Assassination of Iran's Gen. Soleimani: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior spokesman for the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces condemned the US for assassinating IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani as “a terrorist move” and warned that heavy blows await the Washington government.

“The presence of the honorable martyr Hajj Qassem Soleimani in Iraq was absolutely legal and at the invitation of Iraqi officials and the people of the country,” Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi told Tasnim.

“On the contrary, the Americans have occupied Iraq in violation of all international rules and regulations without any coordination with the Iraqi government and without the Iraqi people’s demand,” he said, adding, “They are looting the resources of that country and the oppressed people, especially their oil.”

The Americans wrongly thought that if they eliminate Martyr Soleimani and Martyr Abu Mahdi, their problems will be solved, but certainly, the problem for Americans and the Zionist regime will be far greater than in the past, the military spokesman said.

“In fact, after this terrorist move, the United States should expect far heavier and deeper blows than ever,” he went on to say.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha'abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

In a message on Friday morning, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned that harsh revenge awaits the criminals behind the martyrdom of General Soleimani.

Ayatollah Khamenei also reminded all friends and enemies of the Iranian general that the resistance path will continue vigorously, stressing that continued battle and ultimate victory will disappoint the murderers and criminals.
