Gen. Soleimani Helped Iraqis, Syrians Get Rid of Daesh, Says Iran’s Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani highlighted Martyr Qassem Soleimani’s leading role in the fight against Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) in Iraq and Syria and said he helped the nations to get rid of the terrorist group.

“The shocking incident on Friday suddenly changed the situation in the region and the world…,” Larijani said in an open session of the parliament on Sunday, referring to the US move to kill Major General Soleimani.

Referring to the role of General Soleimani in the defeat of Daesh terrorists, Larijani said, “He rushed to the aid of the people of Iraq and Syria at the request of the governments of those countries.”

The senior commander helped the Iraqi and Syrian people get rid of the terrorists, the speaker said, adding that his martyrdom was a shock to the regional nations.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha'abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

In a message on Friday morning, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned that harsh revenge awaits the criminals behind the martyrdom of General Soleimani.

Ayatollah Khamenei also reminded all friends and enemies of the Iranian general that the resistance path will continue vigorously, stressing that continued battle and ultimate victory will disappoint the murderers and criminals.
