Defense Minister Says Iran’s Response Will Be Proportionate to US Actions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Defense Minister of Iran warned on Wednesday that the US measures would draw proportionate responses from the Islamic Republic.

Hours after Iranian missile attacks on US military bases in Iraq, Brigadier General Amir Hatami told reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Wednesday, “Our next measures will be proportionate to the American behavior.”

He also described the IRGC missile strike on US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Iraq’s Anbar province as a “harsh revenge” for the American assassination of Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, saying the Iranian Armed Forces were determined to take revenge.

It was the first time after the Second World War that an American base was targeted, the Iranian minister added.

He also said that the missile attack on the US base, which the Americans themselves have described as an extraordinarily expensive air base, has taught the United Sates an important lesson.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the IRGC targeted two US airbases in Iraq, including the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in western Iraq, in retaliation for the US assassination of top Iranian anti-terror commander, General Soleimani.
