Syria Army Retakes Key Area in Idlib

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian forces continued their anti-terror push against terrorists in Idlib, managing to liberate a strategic town in the southwestern province.

According to SANA news agency, Syrian troops on Thursday liberated the town of Afes, north of Saraqeb in Idlib’s eastern countryside, after fierce clashes with terrorists.

The Syrian army had given foreign-backed Takfiri militants holed up in Saraqib a chance to lay down their weapons and surrender.

The military announced in a statement on Wednesday that militants have besieged local residents in Saraqib, located 27 kilometers (17 miles) north of Ma’arat al-Nu’man city, as well as Tell Touqan village, noting that the armed men have the chance to disarm and embark on reconciliation with the government.

This comes as Syrian troops have made strides in battles against foreign-sponsored terrorists in Idlib.

SANA reported that army soldiers and their allies managed to establish control over villages of Jazraya and Zammar following fierce clashes with last remnants of terror groups there.
