WHO Hails Iran’s Fight against COVID-19

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – World Health Organization representative Richard Brennan acknowledged Iran’s serious efforts to contain the novel coronavirus epidemic.

Richard Brennan, who is heading a WHO delegation in a visit to Iran, held a meeting with the governor of the province of Qom, where the first case of coronavirus in Iran was detected.

In the meeting, held in the city of Qom, Brennan praised the Iranian province’s “serious efforts” to contain the disease.

He said the first case of coronavirus infection in Iran was reported on February 19, noting that Iran launched efforts to control the virus immediately afterwards.

The Iranian government is fighting against coronavirus in a responsible manner, the WHO representative added, stressing the need for collective cooperation in this regard.

Brennan finally congratulated the Qom provincial governor on the plans to manage the crisis and control the disease, saying the WHO has also provided the technical supports and supplies for Iran in the COVID-19 fight.

Iran’s Health Ministry announced on Saturday that the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country has risen to 145 and the total number of confirmed cases to 5,823.

At least 1,669 people have recovered from the disease in the country so far.
