India Ingratiating Itself with US through Anti-Muslim Violence: Iranian MP
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini condemned recent killings of Muslims in India and said the New Delhi government is ingratiating itself with the US by remaining silent on such crimes.
“Today, we are witnessing the mass killing of Muslims in India, which must be strongly condemned by the international community and Islamic countries,” Naqavi Hosseini told Tasnim.
“I believe that since President (Donald) Trump traveled to India and met with its officials, the country’s behavior… toward the Indian Muslim community changed," he said.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and its diplomatic apparatus should use the capacities of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement to counter the killing of Muslims in India,” the lawmaker went on to say.
Such crimes by extremists against the Indian Muslims indicate that the New Delhi government is ingratiating itself with the American officials, he said, adding that inaction on the crimes is a source of shame to the Indian statemen.
Violence erupted in the Indian capital last week, leading to a three-day-long rampage, with Hindu mobs attacking Muslim homes, shops and mosques.
The attacks were carried out on protesters who have been rallying against a new citizenship law after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kapil Mishra threatened peaceful sit-ins would be removed from the streets.
The violence in Delhi killed scores of people.
It was the worst violence in Delhi since 1984 when more than 3,000 Sikh minorities were killed following the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
