WKF Announces Karate Athletes to Have Qualified for Tokyo 2020


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The World Karate Federation (WKF) has announced the first 40 karatekas to qualify for this summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The announcement was made following the cancellation of the final qualifying tournaments because of the coronavirus outbreak, meaning the first stage of the Olympic qualification pathway was completed.

Places have been awarded to the four highest-ranked athletes per gender and Olympic event, who have claimed the 32 places allocated by standings.

Four karate athletes from Iran have been confirmed in the list.

Sara Bahmanyar in Female Kumite -55kg, Hamideh Abbasali in Female Kumite +61kg, Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh in Male Kumite -75kg and Sajad Ganjzadeh in Male Kumite +75kg will be Iran’s representatives in the event.
