Coronavirus Updates in Iran: Death Toll Exceeds 1,500


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 7,600 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease in Iran as of Saturday, the Health Ministry announced, saying the death toll from the COVID-19 outbreak has hit 1,556.

Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoosh Jahanpoor announced at a press conference on Saturday that 123 people have died of COVID-19 in the country over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,556.

The total number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran has also hit 20,610 after detection of 966 new cases over the past 24 hours, he added.

Jahanpoor also noted that a total of 7,635 patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease.

The highest number of the new patients has been detected in the province of Tehran with 232 cases, followed by East Azarbaijan with 72 ones, he added.

The vast majority of those infected recover from the new virus in a matter of weeks, but the outbreak has caused at least 11,310 deaths worldwide.

More than 272,000 people have contracted the virus in the world.
