Iran Envoy in Contact with British Officials for Delivery of Masks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Ambassador to London Hamid Baeidinejad said he has notified the British authorities of the complaint that Tehran has not received the masks it has already purchased from the UK.

In a post on his Twitter account on Saturday, Baeidinejad said he has raised the issue of delivery of the UK-made masks in contacts with the British officials.

“Following the remarks from one of the officials of our country’s Health Ministry that ‘the UK has not delivered the purchased masks to Iran’, the issue has been already conveyed to the British authorities considering the urgency, while they have requested more information for pursuing,” the ambassador noted.

His comments came after Iranian Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raeisi told in an interview with Fars that the US sanctions have prevented millions of masks bought from the UK from arriving in Iran.

“Before this all started, we had bought many millions of masks from Britain, but because of the sanctions, this country didn’t deliver the masks,” Raeisi said on Saturday.

Iran has intensified diplomatic efforts in recent weeks to force the US to lift the sanctions that have impeded Tehran’s fight against COVID-19.

Iran’s Health Ministry says more than 7,600 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease in the country, while the death toll has hit 1,556.
