Ehsan Hadadi Welcomes Possible Postponement of Tokyo 2020

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian discus thrower Ehsan Hadadi has welcomed the IOC’s decision to consider a postponement of the Olympic Games amid the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak.

The executive board of the International Olympic Committee announced on Sunday that the organization would step up its scenario-planning for Tokyo 2020, adding that it would give itself a four week deadline to make a decision on whether the Games should be postponed.

Hadadi, who became the first Iranian discus thrower to win a medal at Olympics, has expressed his satisfaction with the possible postponement of the games.

“I think we will have a more interesting Olympics if it is postponed for one year. The athletes cannot train due to the coronavirus and there will be a higher risk of injury when the games start,” Hadadi said.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9.
