IRGC Present to Defend Iranian Nation in All Conditions: Commander
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami said it is the IRGC’s duty to be at the forefront of defending the Iranian nation in all circumstances and against anything that seeks to harm the nations.
Speaking Saturday on the occasion of birthday anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shiite Imam, which annually marks the Islamic Revolution Guards Day in Iran, Major General Salami said the Iranian nation has witnessed the IRGC’s presence at the forefront of efforts to protect the people against poverty, various incidents, natural disasters, and everything that seeks to harm them.
Referring to the coronavirus outbreak in Iran, the commander said since the very first day, all capacities of the IRGC and Basij (volunteer forces) were deployed to help in the fight against the disease.
“Since the beginning, all of the field and permanent hospitals were mobilized to treat the patients,” he said.
He added that currently, the Basij forces are making 3 million masks daily to meet the demands amid the outbreak.
Major General Salami noted that the IRGC has also mobilized its capacities to find treatment for the disease, with a research team in a genetic center working on a project to make a COVID-19 vaccine.
Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman announced on Saturday that 139 more people had died from the novel coronavirus in the country, raising the official death toll to 2,517.
Kianoush Jahanpour told a daily news conference that 3,076 more cases had been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 35,408.
He also noted that the number of those recovering from the disease has reached 11,679.
