Zarif to Trump: Iran Has No Proxies in Region but Has Friends

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on the world not to be misled by US President Donald Trump’s war rhetoric against Iran, noting that the Islamic Republic “starts no war but teaches those who do”.

"Don't be misled by usual warmongers, AGAIN, @realDonaldTrump: Iran has FRIENDS: No one can have MILLIONS of proxies. Unlike the US — which surreptitiously lies, cheats & assassinates — Iran only acts in self-defense. Openly, " tweeted Zarif on Thursday.

"Iran starts no wars, but teaches lessons to those who do,” he added.

This came after President Donald Trump claimed Wednesday that Iran was about to launch an attack on US troops occupying Iraq.

"Upon information and belief, Iran or its proxies are planning a sneak attack on US troops and/or assets in Iraq,” claimed the American commander-in-chief on Twitter. "If this happens, Iran will pay a very heavy price, indeed."
