Iran Thanks China for Its Help in Battle against Coronavirus
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Seyed Abbas Mousavi hailed efforts made by China to help Iran and other countries in their fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
“The government and people of China lead the way in suppressing coronavirus& generously aiding countries across the world,” Mousavi said in a message posted on his Twitter account on Sunday.
In a follow-up tweet, he added, “The Chinese bravery, dedication & professionalism in COVID-19 containment deserve acknowledgment. Always been thankful to China in these trying times”.
Two planeloads of coronavirus aid provided by the Chinese government and people were shipped to Iran on Saturday amid the country’s ongoing battle against the COVID-19 crisis.
Iran’s Ambassador to China Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh said the Chinese government and people have so far sent 28 planeloads of aid shipment to Iran from the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Iran’s Health Ministry said on Sunday that the death toll from COVID-19 had reached 3,603 among a total of 58,226 infected people.
“With 151 new deaths in the past 24 hours, the death toll from the virus has reached 3,603. Unfortunately, we had 2,483 new cases since yesterday,” Health Ministry spokesman Kianoosh Jahanpoor said during his daily press briefing on Sunday.
He added that the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has reached 58,226.
Jahanpoor said that while 4,057 patients were in critical condition, recoveries had increased over recent days and a total of 22,011 people had left the hospital.
