Iran Urges Pressure on Govts, Int’l Bodies to Support Palestine, End of Occupation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry called for pressuring governments and international organizations to fulfill their legal and human responsibility of supporting Palestine and an end to occupation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran continues its policy of supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle against criminal occupiers, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday ahead of tomorrow’s International Quds (Jerusalem) Day.
Iran calls on all Muslim and freedom-seeking nations to exert pressure on governments and international institutions to live up to their legal and human responsibility of backing the people of Palestine, an end to occupation, and a halt to the Zionists’ barbaric crimes and acts of aggression, the statement read.
It said the International Quds Day, an initiative of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, was aimed at preventing the Palestinian issue from sliding into oblivion.
It is a day of manifestation of the Muslim world’s unity, awakening and solidarity in countering the threats of Zionism and world arrogance, the statement went on to say.
The International Quds Day, which falls on Friday, May 22, this year, is an annual worldwide event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.
The day is seen as the legacy of Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
