Coronavirus Cases in Iran Nearing 190,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people who have contracted the coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 190,000, the Health Ministry spokeswoman announced, noting that more than 150,000 positive cases have recovered from the viral disease.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 189,876 following the detection of 2,449 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 842 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 150,590 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 8,950, saying the disease has taken the lives of 113 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 2,765 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 1,270,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 8 million, and the death toll has surpassed 436,000.
