Coronavirus Cases in Iran Exceed 202,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Iran has surpassed 202,000, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said, noting that more than 161,000 patients have recovered from the disease as of Saturday.

Speaking at a daily press conference, Sima Sadat Lari said at least 161,384 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

She also put the total number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran at 202,584 after detection of 2,322 new cases since yesterday.

The coronavirus has taken the lives of 115 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 9,507, the spokeswoman noted.

Of the new cases detected since yesterday, 595 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 2,842 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 1,395,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 8,766,000, and the death toll has surpassed 462,000.
