Iran President Orders COVID-19 Smart Restrictions in Certain Provinces


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on provincial officials to determine the causes of a rise in the coronavirus cases in their respective provinces to carry out smart restrictions in the battle with the viral disease.

After hearing a report from the minister of health on Friday, Rouhani said the authorities in charge of the Coronavirus Fight Headquarters in various provinces must immediately determine the cause of spread of the coronavirus in their provinces.

The president said “smart restrictions” will be enforced proportional to the reasons behind the rise in the number of new cases in every province.

He also described as promising the health minister’s report that situation of COVID-19 contagion in many provinces has changed from “red and alarming” to the “yellow and white” category, saying people play a significant role in containing the disease by observing the health protocols.

It is still necessary for people to avoid public gatherings, wedding and mourning ceremonies, and indoor places, and to wear face masks, the president underlined.

Iran’s Health Ministry said on Friday that the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has risen to 252,720, of whom more than 215,015 have recovered from the infection or have been discharged from hospitals.

The death toll from coronavirus in Iran has exceeded 12,400.
