Coronavirus in Iran: Death Toll Close to 14,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran reached close to 14,000 on Saturday, while more than 223,000 positive cases have recovered from the disease.
Speaking at a daily press conference on Saturday, Iran’s Health Ministry spokeswoman, Sima Sadat Lari, said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 188 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 13,979.
The total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 271,606 following the detection of 2,166 new cases since yesterday, she added.
Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,293 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.
At least 223,300 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,529 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
The spokeswoman also said more than 2,123,500 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 14.2 million and the death toll has surpassed 600,000.
