Hundreds Join Anti-Racism Protests in Chicago, Washington DC (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hundreds of 'Black Lives Matter' protesters marched through Chicago on Saturday.

People were seen marching through the city's streets, stopping in front of the Metropolitan Correctional Centre, and holding a demonstration there.

The demonstration was held on the same day when a rival pro-police protest "Back the Blue" squared off with a smaller group of BLM protesters in Chicago's Grand Park.

Separate protests were also held in Washington, DC, on Saturday, calling for an end to police brutality and racism.

Protesters were seen marching and chanting through the city, in addition to listening to various speakers. Demonstrators carried signs reading, "Rebel against oppression and the US police state," and "we are the generation of change."

On Wednesday, July 22, US President Donald Trump announced a surge of federal law enforcement into cities run by Democrats, including Chicago, as part of his "law and order" campaign that follows a growing number of gun-related attacks in the city.

Massive anti-police brutality and anti-racism protests have been taking place all across the US and abroad since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis on May 25.
