Coronavirus in Iran: Death Toll Hits 23,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – While the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran surpassed 23,000 on Saturday, the Health Ministry said more than 330,000 positive cases have recovered from the disease.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Saturday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 116 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 23,029.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 399,940 after the detection of 2,139 new cases since yesterday, she added.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,138 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.

At least 344,516 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,768 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 3,532,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 28.6 million and the death toll has surpassed 920,000.
