Diabate, Mirzaei, Khalilzadeh Nominated for ACL 2020 Goal of the West

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Goals of Esteghlal forward Cheick Diabate, Sepahan winger Reza Mirzaei and Persepolis center back Shoja Khalilzadeh have been nominated for AFC Champions League 2020 Goal of the West.

After the first two rounds of fixtures of the 2020 AFC Champions League (WEST) took place back in February, Asian fans were treated to a feast of football upon the tournament's resumption in Qatar in September.

Looking back at the West Asia section of the draw from the opening Matchday eight months ago, the-AFC.com has selected 10 of the best goals and asks the fans to tell it which one they like best.

Cheick Diabate
Esteghlal v Al-Ahli Saudi FC, Matchday Six

A well-placed downward header from Cheick Diabate put Esteghlal three goals up against Al-Ahli Saudi in its final group game and well on its way to the Round of 16.

Youngster Mehdi Ghayedi plays a cheeky backheel to Hrvoje Milic before Ali Karimi sends an inch-perfect cross onto the head of the Malian for his only goal of the campaign.

Reza Mirzaei
Sepahan FC vs Al-Sadd SC, Matchday Six

Isfahan side Sepahan had already been eliminated by the time it faced Al-Sadd in its final group game, but Reza Mirzaei at least provided a moment to remember from its two weeks in Qatar.

Latching onto a long ball over the top from Danial Esmaeilifar, Mirzaei dinks the ball over the head of Tarek Salman with his right foot then drills past Meshaal Barsham with his left.

Shojae Khalilzadeh
Persepolis vs Sharjah, Matchday Six

And finally, needing a win in their final group stage game to guarantee progression into the knockout rounds, Persepolis got off to a flying start against Sharjah as Shojae Khalilzadeh set the team on its way.

Ehsan Pahlavan jinks his way past a couple of defenders before standing the ball up at the back post to allow the ever-dependable Khalilzadeh to nod home the first in a 4-0 win.
