Iranian FM’s China Visit Accelerates Strategic Ties: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The recent visit that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid to China was a timely move accelerating the promotion of strategic cooperation between the two nations, Iran’s ambassador to Beijing said.

In a post on his Twitter account on Friday night, Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh hailed Foreign Minister Zarif’s first trip to China after the coronavirus outbreak as a “timely accelerator in the strategic comprehensive partnership” between Iran and China.

The top Iranian diplomat’s visit has greatly attracted the public attention in China, he noted.

The ambassador then dismissed rumors about the course of cooperation between Iran and China, saying despite a series of analyses, October 9 was not a day of surprise and no new agenda was put forward either.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Foreign Minister Zarif visited China last week for an official visit at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

“Fruitful talks in beautiful Tengchong with my friend Wang Yi on Iran-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Rejected US unilateralism and US attempts to create unipolar world. Agreed on strengthening our ties incl 25-yr plan, regional coop, preserving JCPOA & vaccine collab,” Zarif said in a tweet after the trip.

Recently, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said Tehran and Beijing “are determined to further expand their strategic partnership,” adding that China is Iran’s “1st economic partner” despite the US “maximum pressure” campaign against the Islamic Republic.
