Ex-Parliament Speaker Given Role in Iran-China Deal


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani has been assigned by the administration of President Hassan Rouhani to work on a 25-year cooperation agreement with China.

Larijani, who left the Parliament in May after 12 years, has been given the task of assisting the administration with the long-term cooperation agreement between Tehran and Beijing.   

According to the chief of staff of the Iranian president, Larijani is in charge of pursuing the issues relating to the Iran-China cooperation document.

The arrangements for the 25-year agreement had been made during Larijani’s tenure as the Parliament speaker.

Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited China with a high-ranking delegation for an official visit that included talks on mutual cooperation.

“Fruitful talks in beautiful Tengchong with my friend Wang Yi on Iran-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Rejected US unilateralism and US attempts to create unipolar world. Agreed on strengthening our ties incl 25-yr plan, regional coop, preserving JCPOA & vaccine collab,” Zarif said in a tweet after the trip.
