Iran to US: We Will Defeat COVID-19 But Never Forget ‘Inhumane’ Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry called the US administration a “cruel collaborator” of the coronavirus, saying that the country will never forget Washington’s “inhumane” sanctions amid its fight against the viral disease.

“Corona's proven deadly, vicious & brutal everywhere, but it's worse in Iran as it has a cruel collaborator: US regime. US has elevated max pressure to Health Terrorism & targeted Iranian people with inhumane sanctions while they're fighting the pandemic. We'll overcome but NEVER forget,” the ministry said in a tweet on Monday.

The current US administration returned the sanctions that the previous regime had lifted. Washington took the move after leaving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a historic nuclear agreement that has mandated the sanction relief.

US President Donald Trump has been trying to justify the campaign under its signature Iran policy of “maximum pressure.” His administration has also snubbed an International Court of Justice order on it to suspend coercive economic measures against food and medicine as well as other vital items such as plane parts.

Washington, meanwhile, keeps alleging that foodstuffs and medicinal products are exempt from the inhumane bans, a claim that Tehran strongly rejects.

So far, the virus has infected more than 574,800 people in Iran, including 32,953 who have died from it.
