Protesters Descend on Downtown Washington to Demand All Votes Be Counted (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Protesters gathered in Washington DC's McPherson square on Friday, demanding that all votes be counted as the results of the US presidential election continue to trickle among several battleground states.

Protesters could be seen with various placards and banners at the demonstration. They also held a giant balloon resembling incumbent US President Donald Trump looking like a rodent.

The protesters were marching down several blocks of the city's downtown area to reach Black Lives Matter Plaza. Once there, they marched to the fence surrounding the premises of the White House, where they continued to chant slogans.

Police officers refused to permit those carrying the Trump balloon to enter Black Lives Matter Plaza. "We are saying no more to Trump. No more to the divisiveness. No more to our children being locked up. No more to our black and brown brothers and sisters being shot in the street. We are asking, we are going to defund the forces that are imprisoning us and killing us," said Immigration Field Director for Community Change, Sulma Arias while speaking at the rally.

The demonstration was organised by Shutdown DC and several other political activist organizations, including CASA for Action and Sunrise DC.
