Iran Urges Close Defense Cooperation with Oman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Muscat called for the promotion of cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the Sultanate of Oman in the defense sphere.

In a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Oman for Defense Affairs Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Iranian Ambassador Ali Najafi stressed the need for constant defense consultations between the two countries considering their potential and experiences of cooperation in the defense fields.

The envoy also conveyed a congratulatory message from Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day of Oman.

“Iran has always extended the hand of friendship to regional countries, and Iran’s strategy is based on cooperation, peace and friendship,” he added.

For his part, the Omani official hailed the age-old and close relations between the two nations, noting that cooperation between Oman and Iran would benefit the entire region.

In April 2019, high-ranking military officials from Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various military spheres.

The two neighbors have held several joint naval drills in recent years.
