Zarif: Iran-Afghanistan Railway Project to Boost Regional Stability

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said a joint railway project linking eastern Iran to western Afghanistan will contribute to regional stability and development.

“The Khaf-Herat railway’s significance is not only for Iran & Afghanistan, but for the greater region. As a gateway that'll boost trade and people-to-people exchanges, it will also contribute to regional stability & development. Turning our frontiers into bridges is a priority,” Zarif said in a tweet on Thursday.

The railway project, officially called Khaf-Herat railway, is expected to be inaugurated on Thursday.

The railroad will stretch to Chabahar in southeastern Iran, boosting Afghanistan’s trade and bringing in its mining sector from the cold to exploit billions of dollars in untapped mineral reserves.
