Iran Sympathizes with Indonesia over Plane Crash


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif offered his condolences to Indonesia on the deaths in a recent crash of a passenger plane in the Java Sea.

In a telephone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi on Monday, Zarif expressed Iran’s sympathy with the Indonesian government and nation on the crash of the passenger plane that has killed dozens of Indonesian citizens.

The top Iranian diplomat also offered his condolences to the families of victims of the fatal crash and prayed for the souls of the dead.

The Sriwijaya Air flight SJ 182 crashed into the Java Sea soon after takeoff on Saturday, killing 62 people on board.

The doomed jetliner lost contact with air traffic control just four minutes after taking off from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.

The plane’s destination was Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan province on Indonesia’s Borneo island, about 740km (460 miles) away.
