Iran Welcomes Formation of Libya Temporary Executive Authority

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the selection of a unified temporary executive authority in Libya.

In a statement on Saturday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said Tehran welcomes the results of political talks among the Libyan parties in Geneva and the formation of a temporary executive authority.

He also expressed hope that the new interim government of Libya would pave the way for elections and prepare the ground for stability, calm, progress and development of Libya on the basis of the African nation’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity without foreign interference.

A United Nations-led Libya forum has voted on an interim government in Libya, choosing Mohammed al-Menfi as presidency council head and Abdulhamid Dbeibeh as prime minister.

The election of a unified administration aims at ending a division in Libya that has lasted for more than five years, with two rival governments, and their affiliated armed groups, running different parts of the North African country.
