Thousands of US Protesters Demand Justice for 13-Y/O Police Shooting Victim in Chicago (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Thousands walked through the Chicago's Little Village neighborhood Sunday, demanding justice for 13-year-old Adam Toledo, who was shot and killed by police.
Toledo, 13 years old, is a Mexican boy who was shot dead by a police officer last month.
Protesters could be seen holding signs, Mexican flags, performing traditional rituals and dances, and placing candles and flowers at a makeshift memorial for Adam, ABC7Chicago reported.
"So when we're yelling and we're saying defund the police and fund our communities it's very important because Adam didn't have a chance. He was just starting his life. Say his name," one of the attendants said.
"I'm so tired of these kids in my hood not receiving the proper guidance and nurture that they deserve. And that's what I wanna cover right now with you all. Instead of us focusing on whether these kids were bad or good, gang-affiliated or not, let's talk about the complex system that was built to make us minorities fail in these hoods of Chicago," a young protester told the crowd.
On Thursday, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability released body camera footage from the fatal shooting that took place on March 29.
