Iran Steps Up Parliamentary Diplomacy over Zionist Crimes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf spoke with several foreign counterparts to discuss the latest wave of Zionist atrocities that has killed scores of Palestinians and the need for taking practical action to stop the Israeli crimes.

In separate telephone calls with his Syrian, Lebanese and Tunisian counterparts on Sunday and Monday, Qalibaf talked about the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip after an escalation of Israeli attacks.

In the conversation with Speaker of the People's Council of Syria Hammouda Youssef Sabbagh, Qalibaf stressed the need for serious action from the Muslim parliaments to halt the Israeli regime’s brutal attacks on Palestine.

Speaking to Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, the top Iranian lawmaker denounced the Zionist regime’s strikes on residential areas of Palestine and the prevention of medical aid to the Palestinian people as war crimes, calling on the Islamic parliaments and international organizations to condemn the Israeli atrocities.

Qalibaf also spoke with Speaker of Tunisia’s Assembly of the Representatives of the People Rached Ghannouchi, saying the parliaments of all Muslim nations must raise their voice against the Israeli regime and support Palestine as a duty.

Since May 10, at least 192 Palestinians, including 58 children and 34 women, have died during a significant escalation in the Israeli military’s attacks against Gaza.

Scores of others have also died in the nearby Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank, during the regime’s attacks on Palestinian worshippers and protesters.
