COVID Daily Death Toll Drops to below 200 in Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The daily death toll from the coronavirus in Iran was down to 187 on Saturday as officials hail the country’s success in weathering the fourth wave of the pandemic.

Providing the latest statistics for the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Saturday that the pandemic has claimed 187 lives over the past 24 hours, and the overall death toll stands at 78,381.

Sima Sadat Lari also noted that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,823,800 after the detection of over 8,000 new cases since yesterday.

More than 2,319,700 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,945 are being kept in the intensive care units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 18.81 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 2,478,900 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 166 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.45 million.
