Iran Opens Consulate in Syria’s Aleppo
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran’s consulate in Syria’s northwestern city of Aleppo was inaugurated on Saturday, May 22.
The consulate general of Iran in Aleppo was inaugurated in a ceremony with the participation of Iran’s ambassador to Damascus and a videoconference attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Syria counterpart Faisal Mekdad.
The arrangements for the opening of the consulate had been made during Zarif’s visit to Syria earlier in May.
The top Iranian diplomat had held consultations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and with Mekdad.
Following the meetings, the Syrian Foreign Ministry gave its consent to the opening of the Iranian consulate in a written permission.
