Intelligence Forces Smash Major Drug Ring in Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Intelligence Ministry forces disbanded an international ring of drug traffickers in the northern province of Alborz.
The intelligence forces identified members of the major international drug trafficking ring that had plans to ship a large consignment of narcotics out of Iran.
In the attack against the smugglers in Alborz, four gang members were arrested and 3 vehicles and 700 kg of heroin were confiscated.
Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.
Despite high economic and human costs, the Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug-trafficking over the past decades.
