COVID Deaths in Iran Surpass 85,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus infection in Iran exceeded 85,000 on Tuesday as the country’s health society is geared up to deal with the fifth wave of the pandemic.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Tuesday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 85,095, saying the disease has taken the lives of 146 patients over the past 24 hours.

She also noted that at least 2,953,500 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has surpassed 3,286,900 following the detection of 16,080 new cases since Monday noon, the spokeswoman added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,296 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 24.11 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 4.49 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 185 million and the death toll has exceeded 4 million.
