COVID Daily Deaths in Iran Close to 200


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The daily death toll from the coronavirus in Iran rose to 199 on Friday as the country is struggling with the fifth wave of the pandemic.

Providing the latest statistics for the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Friday that the pandemic has claimed 199 lives over the past 24 hours, and the overall death toll stands at 86,791.

Sima Sadat Lari also noted that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 3,485,900 after the detection of 21,885 new cases since yesterday.

More than 3,101,600 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,135 are being kept in the intensive care units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 24.89 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 5.68 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 189 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.07 million.
