Iran Marks Highest Daily COVID Deaths in 11 Weeks


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of patients who died of the coronavirus infection in Iran over the past 24 hours soared past 360, the highest death toll over the last 81 days.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 90,996, saying the disease has taken the lives of 366 patients over the past 24 hours.

She said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has exceeded 3,903,500 following the detection of 32,511 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected since Saturday, 3,483 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 3,385,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,539 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 25.97 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 9.92 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 198 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.2 million.
