COVID-19 Kills 555 More Iranians Over Past 24 Hours


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has claimed the lives of 555 more Iranians in the last 24 hours, increasing the overall number of deaths to 100,810, according to Iran's Health Ministry.

Over the last 24 hours, 28,833 new cases of COVID-19 infection were discovered, with 4,064 of them requiring hospitalization, according to the report.

The Iranian Health Ministry also noted that 3,868,196 people have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 4,616,516 sick people.

Nearly 7,587 individuals infected with COVID-19 disease are in serious condition and are currently being treated in intensive care facilities, according to the report.

The Ministry added that 16,378,331 Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccination so far among which, 5,427,548 individuals have received the second dosage.

As of August 19, 2021, the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had been confirmed in over 210 countries and territories. The virus had infected over 210 million people worldwide, and the number of deaths had reached 4.4 million. The most severely affected countries include the US, Brazil, and India.
