Iran Urges Interaction with Nicaragua against US Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called for close cooperation with Nicaragua in international organizations in order to nullify the US sanctions.

In a telephone conversation with his Nicaraguan counterpart Daniel Ortega on Tuesday evening, the Iranian president stressed the need for close cooperation between Tehran and Managua in the international arena to nullify the US sanctions and increase the costs of the American regime’s actions against independent states and nations, especially Iran and Nicaragua.

“The common views of the two Iranian and Nicaraguan nations against the US’ excessive demands is a precious asset for interaction and convergence at the international arena for defending the national sovereignty of independent states and nations,” Raisi added.

He also emphasized that the Iranian government’s foreign policy favors the expansion of ties with the Latin American and Caribbean countries, including Nicaragua.

For his part, Ortega gave an assurance that Nicaragua will keep enhancing relations with Iran.

Denouncing the US for targeting the Latin American nations’ unity with the Islamic Republic, he emphasized the need to maintain and strengthen solidarity between the two nations.

In a meeting in early August in Tehran, Raisi the secretary-general of ALBA -an intergovernmental alliance of the Latin American and Caribbean states- weighed plans to promote cooperation and protect independent nations against the US and other arrogant powers.

Highlighting the values shared by the Islamic Republic and the ALBA members, Raisi said Iran is resolved to strengthen political and economic relations with the ALBA member states.

He also lashed out at the arrogant powers for labeling the efforts from the independent and freedom-seeking nations ‘anti-values’, stressing that closer cooperation between Iran and the Latin American nations could force the US and other arrogant powers into passiveness.
