COVID Deaths in Iran Soar Past 110,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran has surpassed 110,000 after more than 500 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

Over the past 24 hours, 20,404 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 3,479 of them hospitalized, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

It put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 110,064, saying the disease has taken the lives of 515 patients over the past 24 hours.

More than 4,332,800 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 5,103,500 ones who have contracted the disease, the Ministry added.

Some 7,740 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The Ministry also said that more than 19.34 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 9.5 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 220 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.57 million.
