Iran Overpowers Palestine at Asian Women's Handball C’ship
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Palestine 52-9 at the 2021 Asian Women's Handball Championship at the Princess Sumaya Hall in Amman, Jordan on Saturday.
Iran has been drawn in Group B along with Palestine, Kuwait, Syria, Japan and Jordan.
Team Melli suffered a narrow 23-20 loss against Japan in its opening match but defeated Kuwait 38-11 in its second game. Iran is scheduled to meet Jordan on Sunday.
South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are in Group A.
The 2021 Asian Women's Handball Championship is being held from September 15 to 25 in Jordan.
It also acts as the qualification tournament for the 2021 World Women's Handball Championship, with the top six teams from the championship directly qualifying for the event to be held in Spain.
On August 9, 2020, the Asian Handball Federation decided to postpone the championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the championship was scheduled to take place from December 10 to 22, 2020.
On August 3, 2021, the AHF announced to move the event from South Korea to Jordan due to the pandemic.
