Syria Beats Iran in FIBA Women's Asia Cup Division B
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran suffered its second loss in a row in the 2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup Division B on Monday.
Iran lost to Syria 78-71 in Group A.
Iran had lost to Lebanon 66-64 on Sunday.
Randi Brown scored 26 points for Syria in the match. Syria was fully in control for most of the game and the result looked to be secured. However, Iran had other ideas as it set up a tense finale with a last quarter comeback.
Team Melli cut the gap to just six points and had a possession to make it a one-shot game heading down the game stretch, but Syria held its nerve.
Masoumeh Esmaeilzadeh had 14 points and 11 rebounds in defeat. Her teammate Sheida Shojaei added an even more impressive 18 points and 10 boards, but a massive 30 turnovers really did cost Iran dearly as the team fell to 0-2.
